The workshop titled “Current Issues and Solution Proposals in Turkish Historiography in the First Quarter of the 21st Century,” organized in collaboration with Atatürk University and Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, was held at the Nene Hatun Cultural Center of Atatürk University with significant participation.
In addition to the Rector of Atatürk University, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, and the Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan, the event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Aşık; Advisors to the Rector Prof. Dr. Kemal Polat and Prof. Dr. Oktay Özgül; as well as numerous academicians and students.
The event brought together approximately 100 scholars from universities across Türkiye and served as an important scientific platform where current challenges in Turkish historiography were examined and potential solutions proposed.
In his opening speech, the Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, Prof. Dr. Alparslan Ceylan expressed his pleasure in taking part in a joint academic project with Atatürk University and in contributing to the longstanding relations between Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan.
Rector Ceylan stated: “As historians, our primary foundation for writing history should be our national sources and our unique historical perspective. Every Turkish youth should read the Göktürk inscriptions, as they are a profound legacy that illuminates our path from the past into the future. As Ziya Pasha once said, ‘History is the greatest teacher.’ Its lessons leave no one unaffected. The presentations delivered by the esteemed scholars gathered here today will provide valuable insights to young researchers and students. I sincerely thank the Rector of Atatürk University, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, the organizing committee, and all participants who contributed to the realization of this meaningful workshop.”
In his speech, Rector of Atatürk University, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu underscored that universities are among the most vital scientific institutions contributing to society. He stated: “Academic initiatives such as this one, which aim to transmit our history to future generations on a sound and scholarly basis, are supported by our university and many other institutions through various activities that shape the future.”
He also highlighted the importance of sharing the knowledge and findings of the workshop with the wider public and extended his gratitude to the organizing committee and all attendees for bringing together such distinguished historians for this meaningful occasion.
Following the speeches, a commemorative book prepared for KTMU Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan was presented by the Rector of Atatürk University, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu.
Throughout the day, the workshop featured comprehensive presentations that shed light on various fields within Turkish historiography. These scholarly exchanges—delivered by academicians who are experts in their respective areas—offered both in-depth analyses of the past and proposed innovative approaches and solutions for contemporary historiographical challenges.
