Professor Maimekov's 70th birthday was celebrated at the Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University.


On October 10, 2025, a celebratory program dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Professor Zarlyk Maimekov, Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Advisor to the Rector, was held in the conference hall of the Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University Rectorate.

The event was attended by KTU Manas Rector Professor Alpaslan Ceylan, Vice-Rector Professor Ismet Altıntış, Secretary General Dr. Fatih Ramazan Istanbullugil, Vice-Rector of the I. Razzakov Kyrgyz State Technical University Associate Professor Jyrgalbek Sydykov, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Associate Professor Nurzat Totubaeva, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences Professor Gulbubu Kurmanbekova, Professor Maimekov's students, and university faculty, staff, and students.

The program began with the performance of the national anthems of the two countries and a screening of a presentation film about the university.

Opening the event, KTU Manas Rector Professor Alpaslan Ceylan emphasized that Professor Zarlyk Maimekov is not only an outstanding scholar but also a role model for many generations.

"Each of us will eventually complete our service and retire, but there are teachers whose work, knowledge, and the students they mentor make them immortal. Professor Maimekov is one such respected educator," Ceylan noted.

He also cited Kyrgyz proverbs, emphasizing the importance of recognizing a person's achievements during their lifetime:
"Appreciate a person while they are alive, while they can see—that's when we should talk about their good deeds."
The Rector expressed gratitude to everyone who participated in preparing the program—students, deans, faculty, and the university administration.

Vice Rector Professor Ismet Altyntaş noted that Professor Maimekov's wisdom and experience had a profound impact on hundreds of students:
"The light of your knowledge illuminates our path." "We wish you good health and a long life," said Altyntash.

In her speech, Associate Professor Nurzat Totubaeva, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, described Professor Maimekov as "a wise tree who gives strength and inspiration to others" thanks to his hard work, scientific achievements, valuable publications, and patents. She emphasized that the professor has trained hundreds of engineers and ecologists who have contributed to the country's development, and wished him continued success.

Associate Professor Jyrgalbek Sydykov, Vice-Rector of the I. Razzakov Kyrgyz State Technical University, speaking at the event, noted:
"I have known and collaborated with Professor Maimekov for over 30 years. It was an honor to be his student. The Kyrgyz people know you as one of the country's leading scientists and educators. Your life's journey serves as an example and inspiration for us."

In the final part of the program, Professor Zarlyk Maimekov explained that he has been working at the university since 2000 and this year celebrates 25 years of service at KTU Manas. In his speech, he shared his thoughts on his life and academic career, his research, his public activities, his students, and his work related to the Green Metrics ranking.
The professor expressed gratitude to the university, its administration, deans, colleagues, students, and his family, encouraging young people to never stop learning, researching, and pursuing knowledge.

The event concluded with the presentation of flowers and souvenirs to Professor Maimekov, after which the participants took a group photo.
