International Conference Dedicated to the 150th Anniversary of Osmonaaly Sydyk Uulu Held in Bishkek

On September 26, 2025, the international conference titled “The Legacy of Osmonaaly Sydyk Uulu within the Enlightenment Movement of the Turkic World” was held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the first modern historian of the Kyrgyz people Osmonaaly Sydyk Uulu.

The event was organized in cooperation with the Turkic Academy, the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Manas National Academy.

The conference was attended by State Secretary of the Kyrgyz Republic Marat Imankulov; Advisor to the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and Chairman of the Commission on the Development of Historical Science under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Arslan Koichiev; President of the Turkic Academy Prof. Dr. Shahin Mustafayev; Minister of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva; Minister of Science, Higher Education, and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic Bakhtiyar Orozov; Member of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States Apas Jumagulov; Rector of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan; Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Almaz Ibraev; President of the National Manas Academy Aziz Biymyrza Uulu, as well as numerous scholars.

In his opening speech, President of the Turkic Academy Prof. Dr. Shahin Mustafayev highlighted Osmonaaly Sydyk Uulu’s contributions to the development of historical science, stating: “The anniversary of Osmonaaly Sydyk Uulu is of great significance not only for Kyrgyzstan but also for the entire Turkic World.”

Minister of Education Kendirbaeva: Manas University Leads the Development of the Kyrgyz Language

In her speech, Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Education Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva highlighted Manas University's valuable contributions to the Kyrgyz language and expressed her satisfaction with Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan's dedicated efforts toward the development of the Kyrgyz language and its transmission to future generations. Kendirbaeva emphasized that these efforts have made significant contributions to strengthening the Kyrgyz language and culture, as well as enriching the country’s scientific and cultural heritage.

Rector Ceylan: Our Contribution to the Kyrgyz Language and Culture Will Continue

In his address, Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan highlighted the significance of this international conference, organized to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Osmonaaly Sydyk Uulu. He recalled the contributions Sydyk Uulu made to the Kyrgyz language through his works and stressed the importance of preserving this valuable heritage and passing it on to future generations.

Prof. Dr. Ceylan stated that since its establishment, Manas University has approached the Kyrgyz language with scientific, academic, and social responsibility, playing a pioneering role in this field through research and studies conducted at both theoretical and practical levels. He emphasized that the university’s academic staff have led this development by conducting interdisciplinary studies in Kyrgyz language teaching and producing books, materials, and scientific publications that meet contemporary needs.

Rector Ceylan also noted that the Kyrgyz Language and Literature Program launched at Manas University is a concrete demonstration of the university's commitment to the Kyrgyz language, literature, culture, and history. He stressed that the university continues to contribute to the preservation, development, and international promotion of the Kyrgyz language.

The conference, held in four sessions, covered a wide range of topics, from the rich heritage of Osmonaaly Sydyk Uulu to the enlightenment and reform movements that shaped the intellectual life of the Turkic peoples in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This international event in Bishkek provided an important platform for scholars to share their joint efforts in researching and promoting historical heritage.
