On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, the Continuing Education Center of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University organized a special event as part of its social responsibility initiatives.
As part of the program, the biographical film Temple Grandin, depicting the life of the renowned scientist who lived with autism and made significant contributions to the field of agriculture, was screened for students at the Artykbai Suiundukov Cinema Hall of the Faculty of Communication.
The event was attended by KTMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Recai Doğan, Head of the Continuing Education Center Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erkan Efilti, along with faculty members and students. The event aimed to raise public awareness about autism, promote tolerance, and foster a warmer approach toward individuals with autism.
In his speech, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Recai Doğan highlighted the significance of the day, emphasizing that individuals with autism deserve equal rights and opportunities in society. He underlined the university’s strong commitment to social responsibility, equality, and inclusion within the spheres of education, research, and community engagement. Prof. Dr. Doğan noted that such events play a vital role in increasing public awareness and understanding.
Emphasizing that individuals with autism have the right to fully benefit from the opportunities available in society, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Recai Doğan stated, “We must understand them, break down our prejudices, and remember that they are human beings just like us. I hope today serves as a reminder to acknowledge our brothers and sisters with autism, become more sensitive to their experiences, and work toward a more peaceful world.”
Throughout the event, students had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of autism and raise their awareness on the subject. The impactful film left a strong impression on the audience. At the end of the screening, participants expressed their thoughts and feelings by writing messages, which were then displayed on a dedicated board. This meaningful event not only shed light on the challenges faced by individuals living with autism but also contributed to nurturing a more empathetic and conscious society.
